What should I look at when choosing a Bluetooth Speaker for the first time?

If you are new to buying Bluetooth speakers, here are a couple of pointers to help you make a better choice:

Firstly most people want really good volume from their speaker, this is really normal. This is a simple one to judge - simply turn up the volume & if its loud enough for you, then consider it.  You will generally find that the volume generally relates to the Watts (W) of the speaker . Normally a good quality small 3W Bluetooth speaker should output plenty of volume. 

Secondly, it's important to consider the distortion level of the speaker.  No one wants a speaker to start distorting, especially at higher volume levels.  Unfortunately if you are not wanting to spend much money at all - you probably cant escape this, but on the flip side, you don't have to buy Bose or B&O to get excellent quality and low distortion levels out of your speaker.

Frequency range and punch can also be important.  On a small speaker you can't often escape from a flat frequency output & very limited bass output - and this is just natural (given the driver size limitations). 

You will notice that when you hear a large, good quality speaker - you will notice clear separation between the frequencies & musical instruments will often come across very crisp.

Of course there is always a trade-off of quality vs. price when buying a bluetooth speaker however these days you don't need to spend on big global brands to really get the quality you want.
